Dear Friends of Pietro Ferrua, It is with great sadness that we, his Portland friends, announce the death of Pietro Michele Stefano Ferrua on the 28th of July, 6:20 a.m. at Cedar Sinai Park, Howard Schnitzer Center for Living, in Portland, Oregon. Pietro was 90 years old when he expired after a slow, two-year decline in his health. He would have been 91 on 9-18-21. Words are woefully inadequate to capture the tremendous impact Pietro had on academia, the humanities, the world of translation and conference interpretation, and especially on his students and friends. Pietro was a person of warmth and knowledge: Son, father, husband Loyal friend Altruist University professor Interpreter Polyglot Author Avant-garde artist Bibliophile Gourmet chef Wine expert Film enthusiast Music connoisseur World traveler Human encyclopedia But more importantly, he was a truly admirable man. Pietro was honest with others and with himself He received gratefully and gave quietly He was gentle enough to feel And strong enough to show his feelings He was slow to see the faults of others But quick to discover their goodness He was cheerful in difficult times And modest in success He was always true to his beliefs Pietro was truly an Admirable Man. We will always remember him and miss our friendships of Pietro and Diana Ferrua. -written by friends of Pietro Ferrua
